Time is the one sovereign no one outranks, and Laurie Lipton has given her a face. She draws with the patience of someone who understands that hours are the only true currency. Every jewelled crown, every pearl and every ornamented shadow is built from countless graphite strokes, laid down slowly by hand until the image seems to breathe. Her work asks to be looked at for a long time, and it rewards that attention. In this original drawing, a princess of bone wears her years like regalia, serene and unhurried, ruling over all of us.
We answered her pencil with silver. The frame is made of cast bones, each one sculpted and joined by hand to hold the drawing like a relic, and the same bones continue in a chain of linked femurs that carries it to the heart. The silver is darkened by hand until it gleams like candlelight on old stone, and the drawing rests safe behind crystal glass. Made by Ossua et Acroamata in collaboration with Laurie Lipton, Princess of Time is strictly one of a kind: one drawing, one frame, one keeper. When it leaves us, it will not come again.
